About IBO-Nederland
IBO-Nederland promotes cultural exchange and supports projects worldwide. The projects are carefully selected and all have a specific request for support of volunteers. Another important selection criterium is that projects are carried out by local, non-profit organisations.
Volunteers (often young people) offer their short-term help to the projects in order for goals to be reached. At the same time, volunteers gain a lot of experience to return home with. These experiences can be on a personal level, based on new social and intercultural contacts, but also an improvement of their engineering skills.
After one day of uncertainty and doubt, I never would have thought that these two great weeks would surpass all my expectations! - Gwenny Lindhout (project Ukraine).
IBO-Nederland offers a combination of practical idealism and cultural exchange as an alternative to the often individualistic and competitive society. Because volunteers work in close cooperation with local communities, IBO contributes to the feeling of solidarity, increases mutual understanding and raises cultural and social awareness.
Hard work in combination with interesting encounters and conversations, fun and beautiful trips, good food and cold showers. - Wytske van Genderen (project Albania)
Who can volunteer with IBO?
Dutch nationals between 18 and 99 years old can join a project. Everyone can volunteer, as long as they are enthusiastic, open-minded and have a good physical and mental health.
Individual volunteers: Young and old, and all ages in between. Everyone can join. You can be real good in handling tools, gardening is totally your thing, or you are very clumsy but super social, there is always a suitable project for you. Most projects do not require specific skills or an educational background.
Groups: If you are with four people or more, and you want to join a project together, that is possible! For example, if you are a teacher and you would like to go volunteering with your students, a group of colleagues, friends, family or your even a sports club, please contact us. We can provide a tailor made trip for you.
Companies: If you are looking for a project that contributes to your company’s objectives regarding Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), please contact us.
What can I do?
IBO organises various types of projects:
Building projects: You assist in practical work, for example refurbishing an orphanage or the construction of a children's playground. You usually do not need specific construction experience but if you are a good handyman, that will be appreciated too!
Social projects: You support local staff in their social and caring tasks for, for instance, children, elderly, or people with disabilities. This can be in the area of personal care but also in organising activities.
Ecological projects: Your work will take place in a natural environment. To get an idea; you can help with the construction of footpaths in a national park or plant trees to prevent erosion.
Our projects typically last between 1-4 weeks. Each year we offer over 50 different projects worldwide.
